Nagl forced to sit out of Thailand Grand Prix
Honda World Motocross rider Max Nagl will not take part in the Grand Prix
of Thailand this weekend at the second round of the World MX1 Championship
in Si Racha, as he has been admitted to hospital with a stomach infection.

Nagl, who was already suffering with a hand injury during his Honda Grand
Prix debut last weekend, struggled throughout race day in the season opener
in Qatar with stomach pain, fatigue and vomiting. The initial diagnosis
from Clinica staff at the circuit was food poisoning, and he was given
rehydration drugs to help him recover from the demands of the races.
Nagl’s condition deteriorated after the event, which took place on
Saturday evening, and he was admitted to the local hospital in Doha
for further treatment.

Flying to Thailand a day late, despite still suffering with tenderness
in his stomach, Nagl’s condition improved throughout the week and yesterday
the 25-year-old racer felt well enough to begin some light training, although
he has been incredibly cautious with his food intake. Overnight Nagl’s
condition deteriorated again with vomiting and diarrhea, which has concluded
with him returning to hospital. Further tests by staff at the Bangkok hospital
in Pattaya has given a diagnosis of a stomach infection and Nagl is currently
receiving intravenous antibiotics and fluids for rehydration, so therefore
will be unable to compete this weekend in the incredibly hot conditions at the
Si Racha track.

Once Nagl’s illness has improved the incredibly disappointed German racer,
who was looking to put last weekend’s tough race behind him,
will return to Europe to recover fully.

Lorenzo Resta: Honda World Motocross Team Manager
“Obviously this is a huge disappointment for Max and the team, but there is
nothing we can do at all. Max was in a lot of pain after the race last week,
but the diagnosis meant that we expected a good recovery by the middle of the
week. We have been monitoring him carefully with regular treatment from the
team doctor, and although Max showed some improvement yesterday, he was really
sick this morning, which was making it look less and less likely that he could
race, especially in such hot and humid conditions. Max is a fighter and for
sure he wishes to be on track this weekend, but we can just hope that he gets
well as soon as possible, as we will certainly miss him. He is currently
receiving treatment at the local hospital, where we hope his condition will
improve quickly for him to be able to fly home to make a good recovery.”
